WHY DID WE INITIATE THE HOT PROJECT?
“If you have something that you can do to help others, something that can make a difference, do not wait, JUST DO IT.”
These were the words that inspired Yasmin to kick off the HOT project, an initiative to develop Higher Order Thinking skills in young people.
The spark was lit at the AVPN Conference 2022 in Bali, where Chris Anderson, Curator of TED – a non-profit devoted to sharing valuable ideas – spoke about The Audacious Project, a new form of collaborative philanthropy. Some of the key takeaways Yasmin walked away with was to create impact by doing something simple and immediate. This made her think of her doodlenotes class where she taught students to doodle their notes to increase engagement during class, revision after class and make learning much more fun and engaging.
She was then motivated further by something else Chris said: that there were many people looking for impact projects to support, you just had to share these ideas with them.
That’s how the HOT project started.

The format of HOT is very simple: individuals can buy a workshop voucher that covers meals, a facilitator, and materials for 25 underprivilege kids. Part of the training fee, costs of travelling and supplies are subsidised by Yasmin and her company neOOne Associates, as part of their commitment to the impact of HOT. Community partners that would like to host the kids will cover the cost of the venue. With this collaborative effort, the HOT project will enable everyone to make a difference in an empowering and affordable manner.
