The Power of Being: Understanding the BE-DO-HAVE Model

What is the ‘be do have model’? A neOOne Perspective.

At neOOne, one model has quietly guided our work for years — the BE-DO-HAVE model.

It looks simple at first glance, yet it holds a profound truth about how we achieve results, grow as individuals, and lead meaningful lives.

Where Most People Begin: The Doing

Many people focus heavily on what they need to do — the plans, the to-do lists, the actions. Conventional wisdom reinforces this:

“If you want something, go and do something about it.”

It makes perfect sense… until it doesn’t.

Because if action alone guaranteed results, we would have achieved every goal we’ve ever set.

Why Doing” Alone Isnt Enough

We often assume that the right set of actions will automatically produce the right outcomes.

And when the results don’t show up, we investigate our actions — tweaking them, doubling down, or pushing harder.

But even after all that effort, sometimes the result remains unchanged.

Why? Because the formula is incomplete.

What’s missing is the BE — our attitude, mindset, and way of being.

The Attitude Behind the Action

Every action carries an emotional and mental quality behind it.

Two people can perform the same act but create entirely different results because their Being — their inner state — is different.

Imagine saying “I love you” with resentment versus saying it with genuine care.

Same words, same action, but two vastly different results.

The difference isn’t in the Doing — it’s in the Being.

The same applies in our work, leadership, and relationships. Skills and actions belong to the realm of Doing, but the attitude that fuels those actions belongs to the realm of Being.

And it is this Being that determines the quality and impact of our Doing — and therefore, what we ultimately Have.

Human BE-ings, Not Human DO-ings

We often forget that we are Human BE-ings, not Human DO-ings.

To achieve what we want, we must not only design our to-do list but also our to-be list.

Ask yourself:

  • Who must I be in order to act effectively?
  • What mindset or attitude must accompany my actions?
  • What energy do I bring into the process?

When we consciously align our Being with our Doing, we start to notice something powerful — our results begin to change.

The Power of WHY

So how do we cultivate the right attitude?

At neOOne, we’ve found the answer lies in clarity of the WHY.

When people are deeply connected to why something matters, the right attitude naturally emerges.

Purpose clarifies intention; intention shapes attitude; and attitude drives action.

This is why concepts like Start with Why (Simon Sinek) and Begin with the End in Mind (Stephen Covey) resonate so strongly — because they remind us that clarity of purpose fuels the Being that drives everything else.

“People don’t resist change; they resist being changed.”

— neOOne Coaching Philosophy

From Awareness to Transformation

In our coaching and mindset work, we begin by helping people become aware of this relationship between Being, Doing, and Having.

Once they see it, we use coaching to hold them personally accountable — not just for their actions, but for their attitudes.

Coaching provides the space for people to explore their WHY, reflect on who they are being, and choose the mindset that best supports their goals.

Real transformation happens when the desire to change comes from within.

When someone connects their Being to a deeply personal Why, action becomes natural, commitment becomes effortless, and results begin to shift in meaningful ways.

In Practice at neOOne

We often translate BE-DO-HAVE into a simple, actionable formula:

            Attitude + Action = Results.

In our programs, this model serves as a reminder that every outcome begins from within.

Whether in leadership development, entrepreneurship, or personal growth, it invites participants to pause and ask:

Who am I being as I do what I do?”

Because the truth is simple yet powerful —

when we change our Being, our Doing transforms, and our results follow.

Reflection Corner

Before you move on with your day, take a moment to reflect:

  • What result in your life or work feels “stuck”?
  • What might you need to become in order to move it forward?
  • How does your “why” connect to that shift?
